They are all called <em data-start=\"318\" data-end=\"331\">trackers<\/em> (tracking tools) that help you understand what's happening on your website - and more importantly, how you can generate more revenue from it.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1vy8qwu\" data-start=\"480\" data-end=\"506\">What are trackers?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"508\" data-end=\"639\">Tracers are snippets of code that you embed in your website. They collect data about visitor behaviour, such as:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"641\" data-end=\"740\">\n<li data-section-id=\"viqktx\" data-start=\"641\" data-end=\"670\">what pages they look at,<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"h0cvhk\" data-start=\"671\" data-end=\"697\">how much time they spend there,<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"miv4w7\" data-start=\"698\" data-end=\"716\">what they click on,<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"19g4p36\" data-start=\"717\" data-end=\"740\">whether or not to buy,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"742\" data-end=\"780\">Among the best known tools are:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"781\" data-end=\"1019\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1q1j12s\" data-start=\"781\" data-end=\"837\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Meta<\/span><\/span> (Facebook pixel),<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"vrvoxm\" data-start=\"838\" data-end=\"892\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">TikTok<\/span><\/span> (TikTok pixel),<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"n4hzzy\" data-start=\"893\" data-end=\"959\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Google<\/span><\/span> (Google Analytics 4 - GA4),<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"a8qaxs\" data-start=\"960\" data-end=\"1019\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Hotjar<\/span><\/span> (behavioural analysis).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"mghi1l\" data-start=\"1021\" data-end=\"1058\">What do they do in practice?<\/h2>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"1wjhvwi\" data-start=\"1060\" data-end=\"1078\">1. Data collection<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1079\" data-end=\"1205\">Trackers collect data about users - of course in compliance with GDPR rules (e.g. cookie consent).<\/p>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"ot21f\" data-start=\"1207\" data-end=\"1231\">2. Measuring conversions<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1232\" data-end=\"1282\">They show that a visitor is coming from an advertisement:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1283\" data-end=\"1342\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1qekj64\" data-start=\"1283\" data-end=\"1296\">whether you have bought,<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"2rqd0c\" data-start=\"1297\" data-end=\"1315\">whether you have subscribed,<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"lf59r2\" data-start=\"1316\" data-end=\"1342\">whether you have filled in a form.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"1uzrmb5\" data-start=\"1344\" data-end=\"1379\">3. Audience building (remarketing)<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1380\" data-end=\"1388\">For example:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1389\" data-end=\"1511\">\n<li data-section-id=\"mpi01e\" data-start=\"1389\" data-end=\"1461\">who visited the website but did not make a purchase \u2192 retargeted ad,<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1khfl9a\" data-start=\"1462\" data-end=\"1511\">who added a product to your shopping cart \u2192 reminder campaign.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"tz0kab\" data-start=\"1513\" data-end=\"1540\">4. Campaign optimisation<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1541\" data-end=\"1655\">Advertising systems (e.g. <a href=\"https:\/\/business.facebook.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meta<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google<\/a>) learn from this data and find better and better audiences.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"darhiq\" data-start=\"1662\" align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Meta<\/span><\/span> advertising system using pixels:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1876\" data-end=\"1981\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1gwvt17\" data-start=\"1876\" data-end=\"1904\">learn who is shopping,<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1tfblfg\" data-start=\"1905\" data-end=\"1951\">looking for similar people (lookalike audience),<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1o5zmem\" data-start=\"1952\" data-end=\"1981\">optimise campaigns.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"1w64uyw\" data-start=\"1983\" data-end=\"1999\">TikTok pixel<\/h3>\n<p data-section-id=\"i4oqwp\" data-start=\"2106\" data-end=\"2133\">younger target groups.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"10vwi5a\" data-start=\"2135\" data-end=\"2163\">Google Analytics 4 (GA4)<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2164\" data-end=\"2214\">A <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Google<\/span><\/span> system:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2215\" data-end=\"2338\">\n<li data-section-id=\"j564aq\" data-start=\"2215\" data-end=\"2261\">gives a complete picture of user behaviour,<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"mcbea\" data-start=\"2262\" data-end=\"2307\">helps you optimise your SEO and advertising,<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1fi63ea\" data-start=\"2308\" data-end=\"2338\">can be linked to Google Ads.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"o2i5cc\" data-start=\"2340\" data-end=\"2350\">Hotjar<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2351\" data-end=\"2427\">A <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Hotjar<\/span><\/span> not a classic advertising tool, data-start=\"2456\" data-end=\"2524\">shows user behaviour on video,<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1wlx0yz\" data-start=\"2456\" data-end=\"2524\">shows where the viewer is getting lost on the website,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-section-id=\"unpoth\" data-start=\"2531\" data-end=\"2554\">so it helps to increase conversions.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"unpoth\" data-start=\"2531\" data-end=\"2554\">Why are they important?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2556\" data-end=\"2584\">If there is no proper tracking:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2586\" data-end=\"2752\">\u274c you don't know which ad will make you money,<br data-start=\"2624\" data-end=\"2627\" \/>\u274c you can't remarket,<br data-start=\"2661\" data-end=\"2664\" \/>\u274c advertising algorithms cannot learn,<br websites:<\/h2>\n<ul data-start=\"2901\" data-end=\"3092\">\n<li data-section-id=\"12yid0n\" data-start=\"2901\" data-end=\"2941\">pixels are not installed on all pages,<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"j46r8j\" data-start=\"2942\" data-end=\"2988\">there is no event tracking (e.g. purchase, cart, form fill button),<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"ociduw\" data-start=\"2989\" data-end=\"3020\">wrong GDPR\/cookie setting: the code collects data even when the user has not (yet) consented to the collection,<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"z8gsb8\" data-start=\"3021\" data-end=\"3063\">the tracker is not linked to an advertising account,<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1nz4yh8\" data-start=\"3064\" data-end=\"3092\">double measurement (incorrect data).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"fx0csx\" data-start=\"3099\" data-end=\"3115\">Summary<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3117\" data-end=\"3299\">Trackers are the foundation of online marketing.
